TEADEC web site is now being hosted on a new computer. Until the dust settles, so to speak, BBS needs to be closed down temporarily. We will ask the former subscribers of BBS to re-subscribe when it is operational again. Some links may not work during the next few weeks. Thank you for your patience.

Republic Polytechnic

About RP

Education at the Republic is not just about classroom learning. It is bout embracing a new learning pedagogy, living in a highly conducive learning environment, and engaging in diverse activities to support the well-rounded growth and development of the individual.

Problem-based learning (PBL) uses problems as a trigger for learning. It has its roots in the medical field, where students have to deal with real cases, diagnose problems, conduct research and propose solutions.

It is based on Constructivist theories that learning is created, not simply imparted; for the learner to apply knowledge and to display understanding,it is best if the knowledge is constructed by the learner.

In the PBL setting, the responsibility of learning belongs largely to learners, with teachers taking on a role as a facilitator rather than an instructor to guide students’ learning processes.
